About Kee

Like many young boys, I wanted to be a pilot when I grew up. That never happened. Instead, I became a policy analyst, then writer and editor for leading luxury, travel, food and lifestyle publications. Perhaps it was in my blood. My father was a Fleet Street journalist during London’s swinging 60s and impressed upon me the power of words and images, which remains as vital as ever.

Born in Malaysia, raised and educated in Australia and based in Hong Kong, I have had the privilege of setting foot on every continent. My parents are to blame for my wanderlust and love of food, passions that I have somehow fashioned into a career, having swapped the dry confines of government and social policy for the supposed glamour of lifestyle and travel writing.

Prior to going freelance, I was editor of two influential publications in Asia: Discovery, Cathay Pacific’s inflight magazine; and the LUXE City Guides, which Vanity Fair described as “compulsory inflight reading,” and the New York Times as “having achieved near cult status.”

My work has appeared in Travel+Leisure Asia, South China Morning Post, Tatler, Michelin Guide, World’s 50 Best, Suitcase, Discovery, DestinAsian, Design Anthology, The Independent and Australian Gourmet Traveller. I have contributed to respected restaurant guides, lists and awards and am an Academy Chair for World’s 50 Best Hotels.

A versatile writer, I have created corporate and custom content for a mix of blue-chip and luxury brands, including Rosewood Hotels, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong Disneyland, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Manulife, the Investor and Financial Education Council of Hong Kong, Wall Street Journal Custom Content and a global technology company.

I am a patron of Hong Kong not-for-profit art initiative Para Site and work pro-bono with WWF. I am equally happy kayaking in Antarctica, skiing in Zermatt, diving in the Maldives, wildlife-spotting in Botswana, feasting on a kaiseki meal in Kyoto, scoffing street food in Lima, dancing in the squares of Havana, browsing galleries in LA, enjoying the opera in Milan, or relaxing with friends and family in Hong Kong and Sydney.
